Running in memory of a very special dad

Shannon’s world was turned upside down on Wednesday 24th July 2024 after receiving a phone call from the police to say that her dear dad, Stephen, had suffered a cardiac arrest on the Metrolink on his way to work and had sadly passed away.

At the time, Shannon was just three months postpartum with her second child. Her life was filled with heartbreak and grief, along with navigating being a mother of 2. There isn’t a day that goes by that Shannon doesn’t miss her dad deeply.

Shannon was determined to turn her pain into something positive by running the Altrincham 10K on 7th September 2025 in his memory. Shannon is raising money for NW Hearts Charity, who help fund life-saving cardiac equipment for Wythenshawe Hospital and surrounding areas. It’s a cause close to Shannon and her families hearts, and one that could help prevent other families from experiencing the loss that Shannon and her family live with every day.

Shannon is sharing her story with NW Hearts Charity so that it can help others and encourage more people to talk openly or get support when they need it.

Sue Martin, Chief Executive at the charity, says: “I want to say a huge thank you to Shannon for taking on the Altrincham 10K at the weekend and raising money for us in memory of her wonderful dad. By completing this run, Shannon and her family can be assured that she has already made a difference to people living with heart disease, the support we can give to families and the awareness and education we can share with the public to try to help in emergency situations”.
